In total, 588,000 tons of goods worth $379 million were exported through the customs of the West Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran) during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2021), Supervisor of West Azerbaijan Customs Office Tohid Azarbod said, Trend reports citing Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).
Azarbod noted that exports through province’s customs decreased by 35 percent in terms of value, while increased by 30 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.
“Furthermore, other Iranian customs exported 1.17 million tons of goods worth $1.12 billion through the customs of West Azerbaijan Province over the 5 months. This is a decrease of 35 percent in terms of value and volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year,” he added.
The official emphasized that also, 244,000 tons of goods worth $401 million were imported through the province’s customs within the mentioned period. The imports increased by 88 percent in terms of value and 117 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year.
Moreover, 411,000 tons of goods worth $1.3 billion were transited through the customs of the West Azerbaijan Province in five months, which is a decrease of 11 percent in terms of value, compared to the same period last Iranian year, according to him.
Azarbod said that in general, 179,000 vehicles crossed from the customs of the province in the 5 months, of which 178,000 were trucks and 1,770 were passenger cars.
"The customs revenues of the East Azerbaijan Province for the first five months of the current Iranian year, amounted to 2.46 trillion rials (about $58.7 million), which is an increase of 18 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year," the official noted.
