BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 2. Iran’s import of essential products, such as wheat, barley, corn, etc. decreased by 13.5 percent in value and 7.5 percent in volume, during the first 5 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.
As indicated in the data of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Iran imported 8.85 million tons of essential goods worth $6 billion in 5 months.
The top 10 essential products imported by Iran for 5 months are:
- Corn worth approximately $1.5 billion;
- Cooking oils worth $1.14 billion;
- Various oilseeds worth $895 million;
- Rice worth $633 million;
- Wheat worth $535 million;
- Barley worth $285 million;
- Raw sugar worth $155 million;
- Tires for heavy tonnage trucks worth $149 million;
- Paper worth $115 million;
- Pulp worth $107 million.
In total, Iran imported 14.4 million tons of goods worth $24.2 billion within the first 5 months of the current Iranian year, which is an increase of 7.49 percent in value and 2.17 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
