BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 22. Iran imported about 13.2 million mobile phones, valued at approximately $2.84 billion, in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through February 19, 2024), Trend reports.
Data from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) shows that mobile phones were imported into the country in two forms: for commercial purposes and by citizens.
Over 12.7 million mobile phones worth $2.59 billion were imported into the country for trade purposes in eleven months. Along with that, more than 435,000 mobile phones worth $252 million were imported into the country by citizens during the specified period.
During last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), over 14.3 million mobile phones, worth about $3.22 billion, were imported into Iran. Of them, 13.8 million, worth $2.87 billion, were imported for trade purposes; 550,000 units, worth $346 million, were imported by citizens.
In general, Iran mainly focuses on the import of essential products needed by the country and applies certain restrictions on the import of goods produced domestically.
