Russian Novorossiysk port ups oil shipment

In January-May 2009, the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk shipped about 18.5 million tons of oil, compared to 17.6 million tons in the same period of 2008.

Over 5.4 million tons of oil products were shipped in January-May 2009, compared to over 4.4 million tons of last year.

A total of 36 million tons of various cargo was transported in January-May, compared to 32.4 million tons of the mentioned period in 2008.

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) is shipping own gas via the Novorossiysk port. In January-May 2009, SOCAR exported over 1 million tons of oil via the north pipeline Baku-Novorossiysk. This represents increase of around 568,000 tons compared to 2008. Roughly 224,000 tons of oil was transported via the pipeline in May.

In 2009, SOCAR is planning to increase oil export via the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline to 2.5 million tons, compared to 1.3 million tons in 2008.
