Georgian energy ministry announces tender to determine contractor for construction of Namakhvari hydro electric stations on Rioni River with capacity of 540 megawatt. Several companies showed interest in the project, the ministry said.
The ministry invites concerned companies to submit their proposals from August 24-29 and participate in consideration of terms. Decision about approval of the project will be made by September 1, 2009.
Cascade Namakhvari consists of three hydro electric stations. One of them is Tvishi hydro electric station with capacity of 100 megawatt, height of reservoir is 260 meters, height of dam is 59 meters, total volume of reservoir is 13.1 million cubic meters and annual average generation is 36.5 megawatt. But period of constriction is 5 years.
Capacity of Namakhvari hydro electric station included in cascade is 250 megawatt. Height of reservoir is 310 meters, height of dam is 111 meters, total volume of reservoir is 156 million cubic meters, annual generation is 914.5 megawatt, period of constriction is 5 years.
Capacity of Zhoneti hydro electric station is 100 megawatt, height of reservoir is 232 meters, height of dam is 26 meters, total volume of reservoir is 12.6 million cubic meters, annual generation is 375 megawatt and period of construction is 4 years.
The Georgian government is ready to assist companies implementing project in drawing up long-term agreement with operator of transmission system on condition of provision with capacity reserve to promote export, the ministry said.
Investor should give bank guarantee worth $10 million that will be returned after final inspecting of cascade. The government is ready to assist this project in all stages of development.
