Every consumer to generate electricity in Turkey

In Turkey, every consumer of electricity will be able to generate electricity up to 500 KW without a license, the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority said in the decision published on its website.

The consumers will be able to sell excess electricity. Electricity can be produced from solar panels installed on the roof of the buildings, from water sources or weathervanes in the garden.

Electricity consumption in Turkey increased by 9 percent in 2011, compared to 2010 and amounted to 229.344.4 million KW/h.

Electricity production increased by 8.2 percent in 2011 and amounted to 228.431 million KW/h.

In 2011, Turkey imported in total 4.746.7 million KW/h from Azerbaijan, Georgia and Iran. Last year, Turkey exported 3.833.3 million KW/h of electricity.
