Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb.16

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The date for the release of the Bulgartransgaz EAD sponsored feasibility study for Balkan Gas Hub has been changed, Trend reports citing lexology.com.

Initially scheduled for February 28, Bulgartransgaz has now issued a "hold off" notice for its round table to release the final results of the Feasibility Study for the Balkan Gas Hub, reads the report.

The event will now take place in April or May 2019 with the exact date to be announced.

When finally held, the event's agenda will be similar.

Bulgartransgaz decided to issue this delay so that it can collect and report more detailed information on the following:

Balkan Gas Hub recent developments;

Balkan Gas Hub EAD gas exchange platform;

The latest progress on other leading Bulgartransgaz EAD projects supporting the hub development, including recently approved CEF-works grant funding for the project of common interest “Modernization, rehabilitation and expansion of the Bulgarian gas transmission network”.

Sofia says that the Balkan Gas Hub would also transit and trade gas volumes from the Southern Gas Corridor and potential liquefied natural gas (LNG) sources. Bulgaria has secured one billion cubic meters a year of natural gas from Azerbaijan starting in 2020, while the main link to the Southern Gas Corridor, the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) is progressing well.

IGB is a gas pipeline, which will allow Bulgaria to receive Azerbaijani gas, in particular, the gas produced from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz 2 gas and condensate field. IGB is expected to be connected to TAP via which gas from the Shah Deniz field will be delivered to the European markets.

The initial capacity of IGB will be 3 billion cubic meters of gas.
