By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The volume of gas transportation via the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) to Turkey is 2 billion cubic meters since the start of operation as of the first half of 2019, TANAP consortium told Trend.

Earlier, head of SOCAR Turkiye Enenrji Zaur Gahramanov said that in 2019, gas supplies via TANAP are planned in the amount of 3 billion cubic meters, and starting from 2020, the annual volume of supplies will reach 6 billion cubic meters.

Moreover, Head of TANAP consortium Saltuk Duzyol earlier told Trend that TANAP will need seven compressor stations in total to reach the capacity of 31 billion cubic meters of gas.

“Frankly speaking, our design capacity is 31 billion cubic meters of gas per annum. But we are currently investing in 16 billion cubic meters of transportation capacity. We have built only two compressor stations for the moment, which are sufficient for delivery of gas to Turkey and Europe in the said amount. But when it comes to expansion, we will have to add some additional compressor units to be able to reach a capacity of 24 billion cubic meters per annum. We will have to add two more compressor stations and to be able to reach 31 billion cubic meters we will need seven compressor stations in total,” he explained.

TANAP project envisages transportation of gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field to the western borders of Turkey.

The length of TANAP is 1,850 kilometers and its initial annual capacity is 16 billion cubic meters of gas. Around six billion cubic meters of this gas is meant to be delivered to Turkey, with the remaining volume to be supplied to Europe.

The commercial gas supplies to Turkey have been launched via the first phase of the TANAP gas pipeline since June last year. The gas is transferred to the local gas pipeline system in the Eskisehir province.

TANAP became ready for transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe from July 1, 2019.

The share distribution of TANAP shareholders is as follows: Southern Gas Corridor CJSC - 51 percent, SOCAR Turkey Enerji - 7 percent, Botas - 30 percent, BP - 12 percent.
