By Amina Nazarli - Trend:

Turkmenistan’s Balkanabat State Power Plant produced 182.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity in the first month of 2022, Trend reports citing Jeyhun News.

The plant overfulfilled its monthly plan by 79 percent (1.7 million kilowatt-hours).

The Balkanabat PP is of great importance from the point of view of meeting Turkmenistan’s energy needs. The 254.2MW gas-fired power project in the Balkan region was commissioned in 2010.

Currently, in order to ensure mutual redundancy between the country's regions and Ashgabat's energy systems, the work is underway to construct the Akhal-Balkan-Dashoguz ring energy system.

The construction project for the ring power system was launched in July 2020. The first stage of the 421-kilometer-long power transmission line between the Akhal and Balkan regions went into service in October 2021.

In January "Turkmenenergogurlushyk" concern has started the second stage in the construction of a ring power transmission line connecting the Balkan and Dashoguz regions of Turkmenistan. Some 1,446 supports of the future power line are expected to be erected in the 560-kilometer-long transmission line between the regions.

The ring energy system is expected to be completed in 2023.
