Iran sees increase in electricity consumption

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 21

Electricity consumption in Iran increased by 7.4 percent, during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through January 20, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year, the Spokesman for the Iranian Energy Ministry Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

Rajabi Mashhadi noted that a total of 262 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity were consumed in Iran in 10 months. This is 18 billion kilowatt-hours more than in the same period last Iranian year.

“Over 10 months, the electricity consumption in country's residential facilities increased by 6.9 percent, in public facilities - by 8 percent, in agricultural facilities - by 10.9 percent, in industrial facilities - by 5 percent and in other unspecified facilities - by 15.4 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year,” he added.

The spokesman also pointed out that in connection with the reduction of electricity consumption in Iran for 10 months, industrial enterprises cooperating with the Iranian Energy Ministry were awarded a total of 8.74 trillion rials (about $208 million).

The award has doubled compared to the same period last Iranian year.
