Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend Trend S.Aliyev / Bill Schreder, the President of BP Azerbaijan, stated on the 5th of June that the Azerbaijani gas field Shah Deniz is the biggest one that BP has ever discovered.

Gas reserves of the field are estimated to be 1.5trln cu m. The South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) has been built purposely for gas export from the field.

According to Schreder , at present the Shah Deniz gas is sold to Azerbaijan and Georgia, while shortly it will also be planned to deliver to Turkey.

Currently, the SCP can pump 9bln cu m of gas a year, while at the expense of compressor stations its capacity can be increased to 20bln cu m a year.

"BP is sure that along with Shah Deniz, gas production can be increased at the expense of exploration and development of other fields, which will enable us to liquidate the dependence on one field," he stated.
