Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Aliyev / the import of gas by the Italian Edison company by 2015 is forecasted at 25bln cu m, according to the Director of the project of the company, Elio Rutgerly who spoke on 7 June in Baku. At present, the volume of import makes up 13bln cu m.
The import of gas is planned to be increased after the construction of the pipeline linking Greece and Italy along the sea-bed, with the thickness of 32in and length of 800km. Some 200km of the pipeline will lie under water. About 8-10bln cu m of gas is expected to be transported via the pipeline. The construction is planned to begin in 2008 and end in 2012.
The pipeline is presumed to transport gas that will go to Greece from Turkey. Azerbaijani gas from the Shah Daniz field will be involved.
