MasterCard plans to make Azerbaijan a leader in the region in the field of cashless payments, MasterCard representative in Azerbaijan Erdem Cakar told Trend.
“Azerbaijan quickly adapted to the global requirements of the COVID-19 pandemic in the field of cashless payments in 2020 and this adaptation, compared to Turkey and Russia, passed quickly,” Cakar added.
"The MasterCard international payment system has begun investing and developing electronic and mobile commerce in Azerbaijan since 2018,” MasterCard representative in Azerbaijan added. “We have offered Azerbaijani payment operators a system for secure storage of card data.”
“From now on, a user who has made one payment by using a card will not need to enter his bank card details in the future," Cakar added.
“Millions of non-cash transactions are carried out in Azerbaijan through the company's solution integrated into local payment systems,” MasterCard representative in Azerbaijan added.
"Moreover, our partner banks (Kapital Bank and Unibank) are issuers of MasterCard cards, which allow making contactless payments via mobile phones,” Cakar added. “We are confident that the number of such banks will grow rapidly in the near future."
"A corresponding memorandum on digitalization of payments was signed between MasterCard and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan to further develop non-cash payments in Azerbaijan,” Cakar said. “We plan to bring Azerbaijan to the leaders of the region in non-cash payments within this memorandum during the next three years."
MasterCard representative in Azerbaijan stressed that for this purpose, it is planned to supply appropriate technical equipment and solutions to Azerbaijan.
