Trading in shares skyrockets at Kazakhstan Stock Exchange

The value of trading in shares at Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) has amounted to 429.2 billion tenge ($993.5 million) in 2021, which is 80.1 percent more compared to 2020, Kazakhstan’s National Bank told Trend.

The trading amounted to 216.3 billion tenge ($500.6 million) in December 2021, an increase of 13.9 times compared to the trading volume in shares in November 2021. The December increase in activity on the stock market is associated with the re-purchase of shares of Halyk Savings Bank of Kazakhstan JSC (shares worth 127.2 billion tenge ($294.4 million) were purchased).

A total of 164 shares of 150 issuers on the trading lists of KASE as of January 1, of which 3 issues were admitted to circulation in the “non-listed securities” sector and 43 items in the KASE Global sector.

The KASE index increased by 37.4 percent in 2021 to 3,675.28 points. The largest increase in quotations occurred on the shares of Kazatomprom JSC (+136.2 percent), Bank CenterCredit JSC (+84.6 percent), Halyk Savings Bank of Kazakhstan JSC (+50.8 percent), Kazakhtelecom JSC (34.1 percent).

The capitalization of the stock market as of January 1, 2022 amounted to 28.8 trillion tenge ($66.6 million), having increased by 51 percent over 2021 due to an increase in the value of listed companies.
