Iran is ready to review its road transit operations with Central Asian countries, targeting a transit of 1,000 trucks via the Sarakhs border bridge to Turkmenistan, said Minister of Road and Urban Development of Iran Mohammad Eslami, Trend reports via IRNA.

"Launching Sarakhs border bridge is a key plan that would create ground for transit cooperation in the region and between Iran and Turkmenistan," said Mohammad Eslami.

"This is based on Iran's transit agreement with Ashgabat and agreements with Caspian Sea coastal countries, in the form of an infrastructure plan," he explained.

Eslami said he insists Iran to follow the plan and facilitate trade and transportation with Turkmenistan, and the rest of the region despite COVID-19.

Eslami also siad that disinfectant equipment has been installed on the joint border crossings including road and railways between Iran and Turkmenistan.

"The two countries are inclined to reopen joint borders in the upcoming days," he added.

"The pace of transportation will increase considerably in the near future via this border bridge that would also reduce costs," he said.

"The operation of Sarakhs – Lotfabad - Incheboron road and railway would hopefully start soon," he added.
