Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Khairollah Khademi has announced the 97 percent progress for the construction of the Alborz tunnel, which is part of the Tehran-North freeway, Trend reports via IRNA.
"The Alborz tunnel, as the longest tunnel in the country, is almost complete," he said. "Currently, the access roads to it are being completed.”
He said that Alborz Tunnel is the longest tunnel in the Middle East with a length of 6.5 km and its main purpose is to connect the southern front to the northern front in Mazandaran province.
Opening of this tunnel will normally shorten the travel time by about twenty minutes, said the official.
The Tehran-North Freeway freeway project consists of four sections spanning 121 km in total to connect the capital city Tehran to the northern Mazandaran Province.
