BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 26. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) supports Kazakhstan through a regional project assessing the role of low carbon energy technologies for climate mitigation, the IAEA official told Trend.

The official said that Kazakhstan joined the IAEA as a Member State in 1994 and participates in the Technical Cooperation Programme, the IAEA’s primary mechanism for transferring nuclear technology to Member States and helping them to address key development priorities.

“The programme also helps Member States to identify and meet future energy needs, and assists in improving radiation safety and nuclear security worldwide, including through the provision of legislative assistance. In Europe and Central Asia, the IAEA supports countries, including Kazakhstan, through a regional project assessing the role of low carbon energy technologies for climate mitigation,” the official said.

The official added that the IAEA also assists countries charting out their energy strategies by providing methodologies, energy modelling tools and associated training through another regional project on analysing low carbon pathways.
