Forces and equipment of the Kyrgyz defense ministry are engaged in the protection of especially important sites in the Issik-Kul region, where a state of emergency was declared on Friday, because of the mass riots, the representative of the press-service of the defense ministry told RIA Novosti.
On Tuesday, Several hundred residents of Issik-Kul province have blocked the highway leading to the Kumtor mine. They have captured the "Tamga" substation and turned off the power supply to the mine and gold extracting factory. On Friday the police managed to liberate the substation and arrest the organizers of the unrest.
There were clashes between the protesters and law enforcement authorities in number villages on the south coast of Issik-Kul lake and law enforcement authorities implemented special means. By the decree of the president state of emergency and curfew were declared.
"According to the president's decree the forces and equipment of the defense ministry were mobilized for the protection of especially important objects in the Issik-Kul province of the republic," the interlocutor of the press-service of the defense ministry informed.
The interlocutor did not give information on the number of involved military personnel, as well as military vehicles, but according to her words there will not be the strengthening of armed forces in the region.
"We (the military personnel) are working in their regular mode. Further decisions will be accepted in accordance with the arising circumstances and orders of the higher authorities of the country", the representative of press service said.
The president of Kyrgyzstan has ordered the creation of a joint headquarters of the security agencies for the regulation of the situation in Jeti-Oguz.
The Defense Ministry, Interior ministry, internal troops, State Committee on National Security, State Border Service and Ministry of Emergency Situations were instructed to help the governor of the Jeti-Oguz region of the Issik-Kul province in every possible way in executing measures for the implementation, warning and liquidation of the consequences of the unrests, that are accompanied by the violence and threat to the life of people.
