TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, June 27. The BYD Uzbekistan Factory (a joint venture with China) has produced its first electric cars in the Jizzakh region, Trend reports.
According to the Uzbek president's office, the plant plans to increase the production of electric cars to 200,000 per year within the framework of the second stage of the project, and to increase the production of electric cars to 500,000 per year within the framework of the third stage worth $500 million.
Currently, the factory manufactures the Chazor and Song Plus Champion models.
In addition, the plant intends to localize the production. First of all, the production of bumpers, windows, lacquered, and plastic parts will be established. In the future, it is planned to produce batteries, electric motors, aluminum parts, tires, and seats.
Meanwhile, the project for the assembly of electric and hybrid cars in the Jizzakh region was launched on January 25. The cost of the project is estimated at $160 million, of which $120 million is planned to be invested this year. As a result, about 1,200 new jobs will be created.
The factory will initially build three different automobile types. Mass delivery of locally produced hybrids and electric vehicles is planned for the third quarter of this year.
