TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, June 27. Uzbekistan’s Nuclear Energy Development Agency (Uzatom) and Russian Rosatom State Corporation signed a protocol on the entry into force of the contract for the construction of a six-block nuclear power plant (NPP) of low capacity, Trend reports.

The document was signed within the framework of the official visit of Uzatom and Rosatom to the site of the small capacity NPP.

The delegations examined the site where the six-block NPP infrastructure will be built. The Construction Headquarters set priority tasks within the contract realization to commence work at the construction site within the regulated periods.

On May 27, Uzbekistan and Russia signed an agreement for the design, supply, and construction of a low-capacity nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.

The document was signed within the framework of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Uzbekistan.

Moreover, Rosatom, in addition to a two-block nuclear power plant with a total capacity of 2.4 GW, will build up to 6 low-power nuclear power plant units of 55 MW each in Uzbekistan.

The first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan is set to go live in 2033; its construction is estimated at $11 billion.
