Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, July 16 / Trend H. Hasanov /
Turkmenistan's regions have actively prepared for the upcoming Aug. 19 elections, the Turkmen Central Commission for Elections and Referendum said today.
The district election commissions have started registering candidates for members of local bodies and parliament in two constituencies.
According to the national electoral law, the process of nominating the candidates began on July 5.
The candidates are nominated at the meetings of public organizations and associations, as well as groups of citizens. After registration, candidates, as well as their agents, start agitation through meetings with the electorate, as well as the media.
According to the report, several candidates are claiming one seat in almost all constituencies. This meets the alternative principles of elections. It testifies to intensifying the democratic processes in independent neutral Turkmenistan.
"The openness and fairness of the electoral process will contribute to the participation of national observers," a statement said.
