Turkmenistan expands mobile communication services

Around 5 million people use the mobile communication services of the Altyn Asyr CJSC (TM Cell), the only national operator in Turkmenistan, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.
The number of mobile communication users increased by 430,000 in the country in 2016. Over 198,000 people began to use Internet in 2016.
According to the newspaper, Altyn Asyr installed 160 base stations in 2016.
A program has been worked out to develop the mobile communication in the country’s remote rural areas. For example, 40 2G and 3G stations will be installed in the villages of Akhal region.
Sixty more mobile communication stations are expected to be installed in other provinces. The number of TM Cell users reached 3.7 million people in 2014.
Altyn Asyr joined the World Mobile Operators Association in 2004.
