President of Turkemenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave instructions to increase production of potato, vegetable and melon crops in the country's Akhal region, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.
The head of state gave the instructions during a working meeting held via videoconference and attended by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Rashid Meredov, the Minister of Internal Affairs Mammetkhan Chakiyev, as well as heads municipal administrations of the capital and regions.
An import-substituting facility for the processing of fruit and vegetable products has been commissioned in the Gokdepe district of the Akhal region of Turkmenistan in 2018. The used technology allows preserving the original taste and energy value of products that are sold to individual consumers in semi-kilogram packages.
Reportedly, agriculture in Turkmenistan is developing rapidly. It is one of the most important sectors of the country's economy. The main types of agricultural crops grown on the territory of Turkmenistan are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable and fruits.
The development of agriculture is carried out on a scientific basis. Various types of agricultural crops are grown taking into account the agroecological characteristics of the country's regions.
Special attention is paid to increasing the volume of products in Turkmenistan. As a result, in recent years, the country has increased the production of vegetables and fruit and berries and enlarged the area of perennial plants, vineyards and greenhouses.
