Uzbekistan, Tashkent, Sept. 1 / Trend D.Azizov /
Today, Uzbekistan celebrates its twentieth anniversary and main holiday - Independence Day.
Uzbekistan proclaimed its state independence on Aug. 31, 1991, at a special session of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic. The session adopted a Statement of the Supreme Council on the National Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The decision established September 1 as Independence Day. Subsequently, the law on the national independence of Uzbekistan set these decisions in place.
Festivities dedicated to the anniversary are traditionally held in the National Park of Uzbekistan, which was named after Alisher Navoi.
