BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27. Uzbekistan expected to achieve a 25-percent share of renewables in the total energy balance by 2026, Trend reports.
"Our objectives have undergone slight adjustments, primarily aimed at expediting processes. By the end of this year, our target is to commission approximately 2 GW of new renewable energy capacities. Moreover, our initial goal of achieving a 25-percent share of renewable energy in our energy balance by 2030 has now been recalculated, and we anticipate achieving this milestone by 2026," Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, Uzbek Energy Minister, said.
According to the minister, this entails the addition of 15 GW of new renewable energy capacities, with 2 GW set to be commissioned this year.
Moreover, as the minister pointed out, Uzbekistan has ventured into new areas, particularly in the field of green hydrogen.
"At the Energy Forum, Uzkimyosanoat JSC and Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power have signed an agreement for a pilot project focused on constructing green hydrogen generation facilities in Uzbekistan. Despite these adjustments, our commitment to carbon neutrality remains unchanged, and we remain dedicated to achieving it by 2050," Mirzamakhmudov added.
Meanwhile, ACWA Power and the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan have inked an agreement worth $88 million on the green hydrogen project development.
