TAHSKENT, Uzbekistan, October 5. Uzbekistan and Japan's Mitsubishi Power Ltd. have signed a contract for the construction of the third combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) with a capacity of 650 MW at Uzbekistan’s Navoi Thermal Power Plant, Trend reports.
The project is set to be underway from 2023 through 2026, supported and funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This initiative aims to contribute 4.8 billion kWh of additional electricity annually to Uzbekistan's energy grid.
By incorporating modern and energy-efficient equipment, it's expected to conserve 1 billion cubic meters of gas and generate 347 new job opportunities.
Earlier, for the implementation of the project, Uzbekistan signed an agreement with JICA on the allocation of a loan for a period of 30 years with a 10-year grace period of 128.2 billion Japanese yen (approximately $1.2 billion).
Earlier this year, Uzbekistan revealed that the volume of foreign investments for the first half of 2023 was fixed at 139.1 trillion Uzbek soums ($11.4 billion).
Moreover, a protocol aimed at improving the investment environment in Uzbekistan was signed during a session of the Foreign Investors Council in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent earlier this year. The document included proposals for enhancing the investment climate in Uzbekistan.
