An earthquake jolted two provinces in
northern Iran on Tuesday, disrupting telephone links but causing no casualties
or damage, ISNA news agency quoted local officials as saying, reported dpa.
The magnitude 5.3 quake shook the province of Zanjan and the neighbouring Caspian Sea region of Gilan and was also felt in the provincial capitals of both provinces,
the report said.
The tremor interrupted telephone connections in Zanjan where people rushed into
the streets in panic, the report said. Emergency service workers were
dispatched to the affected regions.
