Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi have underlined the need to bolster bilateral defense relations, Press TV reported.
In a meeting on Wednesday, the two officials discussed a range of issues from the expansion of ties, in particular defense relations, to matters of joint interest.
Al-Assad said the development of defense ties between the two countries could "contribute significantly to regional security and stability".
Vahidi concurred that the consolidation of defense ties between Tehran and Damascus could certainly "play a positive role in establishing peace in the region".
The Iranian minister headed a delegation that arrived in Syria Wednesday on the formal invitation of his Syrian counterpart.
It comes a week after a formal visit by Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, to Damascus.
During his official visit, Jalili met with President al-Assad and Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, discussing bilateral cooperation.
