Iran on Saturday rebuked certain governments for distorting the name of the Persian Gulf, IRNA reported.

Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Saturday that distorting the name of Persian Gulf is just like denial of the Sun.

Salehi made the remarks in the opening ceremony of an exhibition on historical documents affiliated to the Foreign Ministry. Salehi said that thank God Iran has emerged as a great power after establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He said that Iran has become a developed nation thanks to major progress in science and technology. Salehi said that the malevolent governments attempted to ignore the eye-catching progress of the great nation of Iran by waging propaganda.

"We have determined our path to remove shortcomings and attain zenith of success and glory of the great nation."

He said that the great nation throughout history has experienced many ups and downs and has emerged as a new power in the world. He rebuked certain Arab governments for distorting the name of the Persian Gulf and said that there exist various documents dating back to 3,000 or even more years ago to support the name of the Persian Gulf.

There are historical maps registered with UNESCO dating back to 15-19 centuries and that the European geographers have put seal on the glorious name of Persian Gulf in their woks, he said.
