The UK diplomas in Iran are considered valid, Head of Overseas Students Department of Iran's Ministry of Science, Research and Technology Mohammad Hossein Maclis said, Mehr reported.

Earlier, member of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, Hassan Ghafourifar was quoted by KhabarOnline news that diplomas received in UK universities will be regarded as invalid in Iran.

Decision to stop accepting UK diplomas as valid ones came after Iran's Parliament approved a bill on November 27 of 2011 to downgrade relations with Britain to the level of charge d'affaires and limit all economic and cultural collaboration with London to the minimum level.

"We did not receive any documents regarding the diplomas of UK universities being invalid in Iran," Maclis said. "These diplomas are valid in the country".

Maclis added that since a "lot of Iranian students study in UK, their overseas diplomas will be considered valid in Iran, as there is no need for putting society in shock by banning the diplomas from UK".
