The Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC) produces an average of 250 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas daily.

That amount meets Iran's domestic demand for gas Mehdi Fakour the ICOFC's head told Fars news agency.

Production levels were as high as 313 on some days last winter when early and prolonged cold temperatures drove up consumption.

Iran's total daily gas production is about 700 mcm. That should increase when phases 15 and 16 of its joint South Pars oil and gas field begin operating at full capacity later this summer.

Iran and Qatar share the 9700 square kilometre South Pars gas and oil field-lay. Qatar, however, is far ahead of Iran in exploiting the field's resources. Iran has worked to speed up the development of its South Pars projects.
