Central Bank of Iran greenlights use of cryptocurrency in imports

TEHRAN, Iran, August 11. Individuals with legal mining permits are allowed to sell cryptocurrency and register orders to import goods to Iran, said the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Ali Salehabadi, Trend reports citing ISNA.

The CBI and the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade have agreed on registering import orders by using cryptocurrency in the final days of the last Iranian year (started March 21,2021) that is currently being implemented, he said in a press conference.

High-ranking Iranian official Alireza Peyman-Pak revealed earlier that the country has made its first official import order worth $10 million using cryptocurrency.

The country's vice minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade, Alireza Peyman-Pak, said that cryptocurrencies and smart contracts would become commonplace in Iran's foreign trade by the end of September.
