BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 28. The transit of products through Iran by trucks increased by 78 percent during two months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through May 20, 2024) compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through May 21, 2023), Director General of International Transit and Transport Department of Iran's Road and Transport Organization Javad Hedayati said, Trend reports.

According to him, 2.9 million tons of products have been transported through Iran by 125,000 trucks in two months.

Hedayati noted that during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), the transit of products through Iran by trucks amounted to about 14.8 million tons. This means an increase of 58 percent compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).

The official stated that in the current year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025), a significant increase in the transit of trucks through Iran is also expected due to the Iranian road transport organization carrying out several works at the border terminals, holding joint meetings on road transport with different countries, and other steps.

To note, 2,793 km of highways, 45,170 km of freeways, and a main road are currently operating in Iran.
