Iran reveals volume of cargo movements at local ports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 29. Around 37.8 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in two months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through May 20, 2024) at Iranian-owned ports, the statistics of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization said, Trend reports.

According to the statistics, the volume of loaded cargo for two months amounted to 24.5 million tons, while the volume of unloaded cargo was about 13.3 million tons.

The statistics note that more than 16.6 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products were loaded and unloaded in Iranian-owned ports during the two months. However, more than 21.1 million tons of non-oil products were loaded and unloaded during the said period.

Moreover, the information indicates that 427,000 TEU containers were loaded and unloaded in the ports. This shows an increase of 0.4 percent compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through May 21, 2023).

Meanwhile, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports by 500 million tons.

To note, about 237 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024) at Iranian-owned ports. In the last Iranian year, the volume of cargo loading and unloading in Iranian ports increased by 10 percent compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).
