( Irna ) - Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said here Tuesday the era of nuclear weapons has come to an end because it can neither bring about any changes nor settle any crisis.

Mottaki made the remark in a meeting with Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Enlarged Foreign Affairs Committee of Norwegian parliament (Stortinget) Olav Akselsen.

" Iran's nuclear activities are peaceful," Mottaki reiterated in his talks.

He added that ties between Iranian and Norwegian MPs will strengthen bonds between the two nations.

"History shows that the Iranian nation has always advocated dialogue and has had no record of arrogance and aggression against other countries," the minister said.

He stated that 130 plans on settlement of crisis in Palestine had failed during the past 60 years due to lack of attention to roots of the crisis.

Mottaki pointed to efforts made to cause discord in Lebanon, saying, "An understanding between current Lebanese groups will be the only solution to the country's crisis."

He stressed that recent terrorist acts could be a part of a big conspiracy aimed at spreading insecurity in the region.

He urged Europe to play a more active role in Lebanon.

The Iranian minister stated that providing humanitarian aid to the Afghan people would be among ways to decrease crisis in the country. He added that the US attention to other views is a prerequisite to resolve problems in Iraq.

Akselsen, for his part, stressed the importance of boosting a mutual recognition of Islam and the West, saying it would be within both sides' interests.

He said the Afghan problem would not be settled through military ways, adding that the situation in Afghanistan is critical.

The Norwegian parliamentarian called on Iran to make use of its influence on Lebanese groups to settle the country's crisis.
