House rents in Iran rose 14.2 percent in the second half of the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20, 2014), according to Statistical Center of Iran.

The center reported that houses were rented on average for 66,324 rials per square meter in the country, showing a 14.2 percent rise compared to the same period of last year, Iran's Fars news agency reported on September 19.

According to the report, houses were sold at 14.196 million rials per square meter, a 17.2 percent rise year on year.

During the past two years the Iranian housing market experienced a huge surge in prices. The accelerating inflation raised the prices especially the imported goods. Naturally the raw materials for construction also got more expensive and this caused a downturn in the housing sector.
