Iran registers 5 new orbit points

Iran has registered and now possesses five new orbit points, Head of Iran Space Organization Mohsen Bahrami said.

Speaking during a ceremony on the National Day of Space Technology, he also said Iran is launching a datacenter which would provide information on the history of space technology in Iran, Mehr news agency reported February 1.

During the same ceremony, Iran unveiled two new domestically built satellites dubbed Nahid 1 and Payam.

The Nahid 1 satellite is designed and manufactured by the Iran University of Science and Technology. It is a solar-powered telecommunications satellite, ready for launching. Payam is designed by the Amirkabir University of Technology.

Iran marks the anniversary of launching the Omid satellite as the National Day of Space Technology.

Omid, Iran’s first domestically built satellite, is a data-processing satellite for research and telecommunications that was successfully launched on February 2, 2009.
