Iran’s tile and ceramic industry is experiencing hard days due to intensified stagnation in the country’s construction sector, Behnam Aziz-zadeh, head of the Iranian Tile and Ceramic Producers Syndicate, said.
The country currently has 150 million square meters of surplus tile and ceramics in depots, Aziz-zadeh said, Tasnim news agency reported Feb. 8.
He also warned that Iranian tile and ceramic manufactures may face problem in paying the salaries of their workers.
The output of Iran’s tile and ceramic industry has dropped by 13.3 percent over the first nine months of the current fiscal year (started March 20, 2016).
The industry produced 217.493 million square meters of tiles and ceramics in the period.
Iranian officials have earlier announced that the country’s tile and ceramic industry’s nominal production capacity stands at 700 million square meters per year.
The officials have also said that 133 manufacturing units are active in tile and ceramic production nationwide.
Iran exported over 62.13 million square meters of tiles and ceramics valued at $222 million over the first six months of the current fiscal year.
