By A. Shirazi - Trend:

The giant South Pars Gas Field’s production capacity is expected to increase by 84 million cubic meters per day by the end of the current Iranian fiscal year (started March 21), the managing director of Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) said.

“The gas output capacity at South Pars Gas Field will increase by 84 million cubic meters per day by year-end,” Mohammad Meshkin-Fam said, Shana news agency reported on July 19.

Adding that that phases 13, 14, and 24 in the giant gas hub have made 90 percent physical progress, he said that five new platforms will be installed at the phases by late September.

The managing director of the POGC noted that refineries of 13, 14, and 24 phases will come on stream by late November.

According to the official, production of gas from the giant gas hub currently stands at 555 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d).

South Pars accounts for supplying 70 percent of the gas consumed inside the country, he further noted.

The giant gas field, which Iran shared with Qatar in the Persian Gulf, is estimated to contain a significant amount of natural gas, accounting for about eight percent of the world’s reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.

The field is divided into 24 standard phases of development in the first stage. Most of the phases are fully operational at the moment.

Completing development phases of South Pars is among the Oil Ministry’s priorities outlined by President Hassan Rouhani in a decree in mid-September, 2017.
