An official at Pars Oil and Gas Company said the construction work on two flood barriers at phases 13, 22, and 24 of Iran's giant South Pars gas field have been completed.
“The storm surge barriers could help control and direct floodwater and prevent potential damages at the phases which are under construction and development,” Mohieddin Jafari said, Shana news agency reported on October 12.
The barrier will protect the phases 13, 22 and 24 at Akhtar-e Kangan site in the energy hub during fall and winter.
The gas field, whose development has been divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf straddling the maritime border between Iran and Qatar.
It covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers belongs to Iran.
It is estimated that the Iranian section of the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensates in place.
