Volume of gas supplied to thermal power plants down in Iran

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 12

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

The gas supplied by the National Iranian Gas Company to the thermal power plants was reduced by 50 percent, spokesman for the Iranian Energy Ministry Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi said.

“The gas supply has been decreased due to the cold weather,” the spokesman said, Trend reports referring to Fars news agency.

“Presently, the National Iranian Gas Company supplies 40 million cubic meters of gas to thermal power plants daily,” Mashhadi said.

"However, 90 million cubic meters of gas must be supplied to the Iranian thermal power plants per day," the spokesman said.

“As a result, the thermal power plants use diesel and fuel oil,” Mashhadi added. “However, in the current situation, it is necessary to save diesel.”

The spokesman said that Tus, Khorasan, Neka, Shahid Rajaee, Sahand and Tabriz thermal power plants use fuel oil for electricity production.
