BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 12. A joint free trade zone will be established between Iran and Türkiye soon, Executive Director of Iran's Maku Free Trade Zone Hossein Garousi said, Trend reports.
According to Garousi, an agreement has been signed between Iran and Türkiye to establish a joint free trade zone, and research is underway to establish the clause.
Garousi also stated that the two countries intend to build a
common railroad route. The Marand-Cheshme Soraya-Igdir-Kars
railroad line will significantly improve train transportation
between the two countries. Thus, Iran-Türkiye trade cooperation
will expand in the next few years.
The spokesperson stated that the focus will be on connecting two
corridors throughout the country to Türkiye. Within these
corridors, the focus is on connecting Sarahks Customs in
northeastern Iran on the border with Turkmenistan to Bazargan
Customs on Iran's border with Türkiye, and the second is focused on
connecting the provinces of Sistan and Baluchistan in southeast
Iran from the port of Chabahar to the Bazargan customs office on
the border with Türkiye.
Meanwhile, Iran has 63 production facilities in the Maku Free Trade Zone.
To note, as part of the Iranian president's visit to Türkiye on January 24, 10 agreements were signed between Türkiye and Iran covering issues such as energy, free zones, media, culture, railway transportation, and mutual recognition of driver's licenses.
