By Mehdi Sepahvand -- Trend:

Fighting terrorism is the only solution to the problem of refugees, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a meeting with Netherlands Foreign Minister Bert Koenders in Tehran.

"Terrorism should not be seen merely as a problem of our region. It is a global issue and fighting it needs global will," Rouhani asserted, the Iranian presidential website reported September 20.

"The Middle East is grappling with many problems, the greater part of which have been imposed from outside."

Pointing to the prospects of Iran-Netherlands relations in the post-sanctions era, Rouhani said grounds are prepared for the two sides to expand their bilateral relations.

The successful nuclear talks can be a good point to start improving relations between Iran, the Netherlands, and the European Union, he stated, adding that as the future president of the EU, the Netherlands can play a great role in improving Iran-EU ties.

Earlier the day, Koenders had counted Iran an indispensable part to the process of tackling the problems prevailing the region.

"I welcome efforts by the Iranian government to engage in productive talks on topics which we will be discussing in the United Nations in a few weeks; issues like Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, and others," he had said in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.
