Iran facing soft war-Khamenei (UPDATE)
Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 12
By Umid Niayesh - Trend:
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that a serious soft war against Iran is underway, the leader's official website reported.
Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with authorities and officials of the Islamic Republic Broadcasting (IRIB) Organization in Tehran Oct. 12.
The pre-planned, extensive and all-out soft war aims for transmutation of the Islamic Republic, Khamenei said, adding they don't care about the form or the name of the Islamic Republic.
"They want to transform the nature of the system to a government which acts in line with the goals of the US, Israel and the global power network."
Changing religious beliefs of the masses is the main purpose of the soft war against Iran, Khamenei underlined.
The Iranian people have beliefs about religion, family, the issue of "women and men relations", independence, Islamic democracy as well as various cultural issues, and the opposite side is trying to manipulate these beliefs, he explained.
Khamenei further said that Iran 's national radio and TV have a unique role to play in this serious battlefield and should draw up precise and wise plans to fulfill its strategic purposes.
The IRIB is the headquarters of the fight against the soft war and its staff are the soldiers of this battlefield, he added.
"Soft war" is a term used by Iranian officials to refer to the cultural invasion and "soft intelligence" tactics used by foreign countries deemed hostile.
Iran's Supreme Leader has on many occasions warned against "enemies' soft-war plots" against Iran 's resolve towards progress.
Last year he called the university students "officers of the soft war".
Also in November 2009, he underlined the necessity for proper measures to repel the enemy's soft war against Iran.
"Today, the main priority of the country is to confront enemy's soft warfare which is aimed at creating doubt, discord and pessimism among the masses of the people," Khamenei said.
