Georgian parliament adopted the draft law on amnesty in the first reading with 83 votes in favor, 10 votes against.

The authors of the legislative initiative are MPs Eka Beselia Gedevan Popkhadze and Zviad Kvachantiradze.

Under the bill, persons on probation, except those convicted under articles 139.140, 141, the first part of the 146th, the first part of the 147th, 153, 161, 162, 164, 164/1, 164/2, 164/3, 335 of the first part of the Criminal Code of Georgia convicted of less serious crimes, convicted of crimes of negligence shall be exempt from punishment, term halved for minors, , and convicted for the first time for various items for serious and very serious crimes.

The term is reduced by a third for those, who were convicted before Nov 6, 2012.

The amnesty does not apply to additional penalties and fines paid.
