According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 27 km southeast of the city of Hualien with a population of about 350 thousand people. The epicenter was located at a depth of 15 km.
There were no reports of casualties or damage. No tsunami warning was issued.
