Pakistan is expected to share findings of its investigations into the Mumbai attacks with India this week, a news report said on Wednesday.

India handed over some material about the November 26 siege of its financial centre to Islamabad earlier this month, claiming it linked the perpetrators to "elements in Pakistan."

Asserting the need to establish legally binding evidence, Pakistan said the material only contained "information," but that it was being seriously examined, reported dpa.

A report on the preliminary investigation would be forwarded to India in two to three days, the Dawn newspaper quoted Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari as saying during a dinner hosted for foreign diplomats in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Zardari asked the envoys, including those from Germany and Russia, to work towards defusing tensions between the nuclear-armed South Asian neighbours "for the sake of peace in the region."

Pakistan's Interior Ministry chief announced on January 17 that the initial probe would be completed within 10 days, a deadline that has passed.

Relations between India and Pakistan have been tense since the Mumbai terrorist attacks killed more than 170 people, including foreigners. New Delhi has blamed the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit for the attacks.

Pressured by India and Western powers, Pakistan cracked down on LeT and its charity front, Jamaat-ud-Dawa, arresting several leaders and closing down offices and camps across the country.
