Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai on Monday expressed sympathy for the government and people of Italy over the death of 27 people due to an earthquake that rocked L'Aquila Monday morning, Xinhua reported.
"On behalf of the people of Afghanistan, the President expressed his deep sorrow and sympathy with the government of Italy and the families of the victims of this tragedy," a statement issued by his office here said.
Over 2,300 Italian soldiers have been serving in Afghanistan within the framework of NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to strengthen security in the war-torn country.
