A Mercedes-Benz with diplomatic number plates killed a man on a highway after a FIFA World Cup match in the early hours of Friday morning, South African police said on Friday.
South African police spokesman Lesiba Kgwele said in a statement to the South African Press Association (SAPA) that the pedestrian man was crossing the road when he was hit by the Mercedes-Benz around in the early hours on Friday, Xinhua reported.
"He died on impact."
The accident happened on the Bakwena highway between the Brits toll gate and off-ramp in South Africa's North West province.
South African police said the driver of the Mercedes-Benz, whom they did not name, had cooperated with them.
Police told SAPA that the accident was one of six reported after Thursday night's Japan vs Denmark match in Rustenburg.
