Eighteen militaries were arrested in Turkey on charge of attempted military coup, CNN Turk website reported.
Mass arrest of former generals and officials have begun in Turkey, after local media published articles saying that army, which is influential force in Turkey and had performed three coups since 1960, has prepared a plan of 'Sledge Hammer,' which includes increasing tension in the country, the bombings in two mosques in Istanbul and the imposition of emergency.
The newspaper reported that the authors of the document were former high-ranking militaries, who passed the sensational case of 'Organization Ergenekon' which, are accused of plotting to overthrow the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The trial of opposition has been held in Istanbul since October 2007. About 200 people are involved in case: political and public figures, journalists, lawyers, university professors, retired and active militaries, police.
